New Patients at Balance Integrated Wellness Acupuncture

ladies in waiting roomAs a new patient at Balance Integrated Wellness Acupuncture, you will be welcomed by Dr. Janet Cirrone. With more than 30 years of experience in wellness care, she combines chiropractic, acupuncture, myofascial release, therapeutic massage, and other approaches to help Water Mill and Speonk patients find the relief they have been seeking.

She is committed to treating each of her patients like the individuals they are. There are no cookie-cutter plans or programs that are applied practice-wide. Instead, each patient will receive a targeted care plan that includes a variety of approaches to help them heal effectively and efficiently.

Before Your First Visit

Dr. Cirrone runs a personal, staff-free practice and answers every phone call herself. From the moment you reach out, she’s focused on one thing: helping you start healing.

She will ask you about your symptoms and advise you on which current habits, such as applying heat or soaking in hot tubs, might actually be preventing you from reducing them.

Then, our chiropractor will suggest other corrective methods to use for relief before your scheduled appointment, helping create a more supportive environment for the body’s healing journey ahead.

What to Expect to Begin Your Appointment

For about the first 10 minutes of your initial visit, sometimes longer, our chiropractor will take you through a verbal intake session, called OPQRST. This assesses your pain and discomfort level and stands for:

  • Onset: When did the symptoms start, and what were you doing?
  • Provocation/Palliation: What makes the symptoms worse and better?
  • Quality: How would you describe the pain—sharp and sudden, dull and recurrent, etc.?
  • Radiation/Region: Where does the pain start and where does it radiate to, if applicable?
  • Severity: On a scale of one to 10, how bad is the pain for you?
  • Time: How long have the symptoms been present and how long do they last?

This helps Dr. Cirrone develop a clearer picture of what you’ve been experiencing and what level of care you may need going forward.

Providing Comprehensive Exams with Clear Answers

Our chiropractor will next perform several different neurologic and orthopedic exams.

For example, if you are experiencing low back pain, she will watch you walk on your toes and heels to ensure the muscles are working properly. Similarly, if it’s upper body pain or discomfort causing you problems, she’ll perform muscle testing and range-of-motion tests of the neck and thoracic spine.

She may also take you through orthopedic testing, like the Spurling’s test, which helps indicate cervical radiculopathy, more commonly known as “pinched nerves” in the neck.

Often, where a patient is experiencing pain, discomfort or loss of motion isn’t because of a structural problem at the source of the pain. These tests help chiropractors better pinpoint just where in the body the problem is developing.

Returning Motion and Balance to the Body

Following the full exam, Dr. Cirrone may provide bodywork, non-invasive electric stimulation and ThermoStim to reduce any swelling. Cold therapy may also be used, depending on your needs.

She will then work on releasing tissues, if that’s necessary, through myofascial massage. If they’re too swollen, she won’t work on that area itself, but will work on other areas. If you have acute pain, these treatments can be done while sitting in a chair or standing.

From there, you will be given exercises to do at home, including stretching and postural movements, and you will learn how to sleep, sit and stand properly to best support your body’s needs and the care our chiropractor has provided.

Convenient Payment Options

The first visit, including exam and treatment, is $255 for new patients. Follow-up treatments begin at $170. Cash, check or credit card (Mastercard, Visa, debit) are accepted and the practice is a participating provider of Medicare.

Our chiropractor will provide a form to be sent to your insurance for reimbursement.
